I started this blog because I was concerned about the sort of World my kids could be growing up in.
Parents have always worried about their children's future but there now seem to be new clouds on the horizon: Climate change; environmental collapse; food shortages; fuel shortages; water shortages; over-population; and mass extinctions to name but a few.
Am I worrying needlessly? I hope so, but I fear that if we as a species don't come to our senses soon, then everything I mentioned may be well under way in my kids' lifetimes. Imagine that: Being witness to a world descending into chaos and knowing it's too late to do anything about it. What a miserable existence that would be.
And how would their generation look upon ours? Not very kindly I think. They'll be asking why we didn't act when we had the chance: The scientists were telling us very clearly that things were going wrong and what might happen as a result. We even had the means to sort things out. But we didn't. Instead, we procrastinated, we argued, we turned against the scientists and, ultimately, we did nothing. Letting our children pay the price for our collective lack of courage.
Maybe you think this is overly pessimistic and based on controversial theories? Well, I've read a lot of the science, both for and against, and I've been convinced that we're heading for trouble, possibly big trouble.
I'm sure, if you take the time to look at the actual evidence with an open-mind, you'd agree that we need to do something, and the sooner we get on with the job the better.
